We met some years ago with Andi & Gabor at the Birdfair in the UK, and subsequently had a short break with them at their lodge in Hungary. When we decided to go to Costa Rica we immediately thought of them as they had recently moved from Mexico and we had built a great rapport with them. We did some research of our own and with their suggestions Andi put together a tour that was most likely to fulfil our requirements. I think Zoe and I are an easy going couple but we wanted a private tour with some time to draw (as I am an Artist) and some space to enjoy being on our own.

With Gabor and Andi, it is easy. They are friendly and supportive and work extremely well as a team: Andi with her organisational language skills who looked after bookings and accommodation etc. (as well as her fiendish animal spotting skills). Gabor with his patience and knowledge to find elusive and interesting bird species throughout.

I imagine that anyone travelling with them will consider them to be their friends. It was hard to say goodbye to them when they dropped us off in Corcovado where their tour ended and our week on our own began.

They work endlessly to provide you with the best experience ever. Nothing is too much effort for them. I may add that I was unfortunately suffering with terrible sciatica throughout and they were very mindful of my disability, wanting me to get the best out of the tour even though I was suffering extreme pain.

Costa Rica was a very special holiday for us but it was not difficult to entrust Gabor and Andi with this task and we would not hesitate to book with them again should we need that level of care and organisation in the future. If you are thinking of asking them to organise your holiday don’t think anymore, go ahead and see what a wonderful considered trip they can organise for you.

Have been at Ecotours Kondor Ecolodge in Hungary, hosted and guided by Andi and Gabor which was great, so it was natural to go out with them in Costa Rica as well. They know really well all corners of the country, especially the Pacific side and the Talamanca Mountains.

I was on a Yucatan-Chiapas, Mexico Butterfly tour with Gabor and Andi 10 years ago. It was a long dream for all my family members to discover Costa Rica, both wildlife, landscapes, habitats but for our young adult sons and daughter hanging bridges and ziplines were attractive as well. Andi and Gabor knew all the best places for the various programmes which they tailor-made according to our needs. They not just organized everything but lead the tour smoothly. We were celebrating our 50^th wedding anniversary and decided to have a Grand Tour of Costa Rica under the guidance of Andi and Gabor from Ecotours Worldwide with whom they had toured Belarus in the past. The main target was birds but we were looking forward to new mammals, butterflies and reptiles.

Andi and Gabor made all the arrangements in Costa Rica leaving us to arrange our flights from the UK.

This had been a wonderful holiday with two very professional, knowledgeable and experienced guides who did their utmost to address our needs and wishes.

A total of 349 species of birds had been seen or heard (nearly all seen), with new birds on all but the last day, 32 Reptiles, mammals and insects were recorded. A small number of butterflies were identified and a good number of Damselflies and Dragonflies were also seen but not identified.

Thank you very much for this excellent and thorough report.  What a wonderful souvenir for us from the most memorable birding trip in our lives.  Thank you to Gabor and Andrea for their deep knowledge and skills.

a big thank you to everyone for contributing in  putting together the report. It is a wonderful keepsake!  Going through the everyday saga with the photographs makes us re-live our wonderful tour!

 

Tom and I enjoyed every day from waking up in the morning with anticipation of what our day will be, what new birds and animals we will see from sea level to cloud forests -inland, highland, and coastal. 

 

Starting with the beautiful Toucan Lodge with the mid day soft breeze, a blessing, the cornucopia of birds to be seen just by taking a walk around the property. The howler monkeys timely reminding us of 5 am and 5 pm!  Not to forget the at dusk concerto by Avies staring Guans, Parrots, Toucans and more. 

The delicious Toucan lodge’s home made cooking by Andrea and Dania- always a wonderful surprise.  The pool! Ah, how relaxing with an amazing view of the valley with the Pacific Ocean at the horizon. 

 

The birding expertise By Gabor our leader to choice areas for viewing was excellent. Sometimes we work hard just to see birds, sweating profusely, exposing ourselves to road dust flying as local traffic passed us by but every minutes was worth the reward of seeing one new specie and another! So much diversity! 

There wasn’t just birds to excite us. About mama sloth 🦥 with her baby sleeping   on a tree branche and Capuchins monkeys grooming each other lazily on a high branch on a very hot late morning. 

 

Accomodations South of Dominical: we enjoyed all three of them but in particular the Rio Tico safari tents lodge. It has left an imprint on my memory because it is such a unique style. The atmosphere of our “tent” right from entering it the first time, was so warm and inviting with its wood floor, low light settings, private bathroom with shower curtain gathered with a twisted toilet tissue as the string adorned with hibiscus flowers .  When hot and sweaty we jumped in the river swimming hole!  Tom says they had the best coffees!

 

Ok, well that is all for now not that I’m done as there was so many wonderful experiences. So, oh not to forget that we had the best group of people anyone could dream of!

We have travelled before with Andi and Gabor to various part of Latin America, including Ecuador & Galapagos and Yucatan, Mexico so we knew that we will be in good hands. Costa Rica was no exception, it was obvious they know the country and its wildlife very well. If an area had extreme weather they come up with an excellent alternative. With their flexibility and friendly style we felt as an extended family on an excellent vacation.
