How to get to Toucan Birding Ecolodge and Wildlife Reserve:

We are located on the Pacific slopes, on the Baru hills on the way up to San Isidro del General around Platanillo de Baru.

If you come with a rented car from San Jose or from the airport you should come on the Pacific Road going on it until you reach the little seaside town Dominical, actually just before reaching it you will have a sign and you need to turn on left to the direction of San Isidro and then come about 12kms on this curvy road. Before reaching the village of Platanillo there is a dirt road on the left and this is the way to come to our lodge. This road is not so bad, but maybe from here we will meet you and take you to the place.
The other way to come is through the mountains and the Cerro de la Muerte with amazing views and after reaching San Isidro you have to come on the road which takes you down to Dominical, the seas side village/town, but before reaching it when you arrive to Platanillo de Baru you will find a turn on the right. This is the dirt road mentioned above and for make it easier if we can we will see you at a point at the beginning of this road and take you to the lodge.
This is a longer way, because it goes through the mountanins and there is a bad traffic there, lorries, turcks..., but it is absolutely stunning!:-) You will cross this way the area of the Quetzales, amazing forests, look-out points with view on the mountains with the clouds.. as being really in the cloud forest. You will have no doubts about it!:-)

If you don't rent a car, there is also a possibility of arranging a private transfer from SJO airport to Toucan Ecolodge or coming with a shared ride to Dominical and then we can pick you up there. But all this need to be checked with us time before.
Please note that the ride is about 3-3,5hours from SJO depending on traffic and also on which direction you will come. From the city itself can be even longer.
